Part of a series of 22 plaques surrounding Union Square depicting the history of the square from 1600 to 1882 - the year in which the first Labor Day Parade took place at Union Square, and labor movement events that were held in the United States (Union)

The plaques are made of bronze, designed by Gregg LeFevre and set up in 2002

The following places appear: The statue of La Fayette (1876) (which also appears in one of the plaques Click for sign's details), the fountain in the center of the square (1842) (which also appears in one of the plaques Click for sign's details), James Fountain (1881) Olmsted and Vaux (architects who designed Union Park in addition to other well-known public parks In New York)

The year that appears at the top of the board raises questions, since the sign itself has elements of later years.
