Translation of the text on the sign:
Emblem of the Sixth Regiment

The Sixth Battalion - Jerusalem Battalion - Palmach Harel Brigade
The beginning of the Sixth Battalion was in Company H of the Palmach, which sat in kibbutzim around Jerusalem, Gush Etzion, the Dead Sea and Sodom. Following the UN resolution on partition on November 29, 1947 and the beginning of the attacks on transportation to Jerusalem, the company also added "Jerusalem Reserve" fighters, many of whom were students at the Hebrew University. Then the "Jerusalem" battalion was established in the Palmach.

The battalion’s fighters bore the brunt of most of the fighting for the security of roads to and from Jerusalem for nearly four months until the spring of 1948, when other Palmach fighters arrived in the area. In April 1948, the Jerusalem Battalion was included in the Palmach Harel Brigade and has been called since the Sixth Battalion.

The battalion’s fighters have since participated in the battles of the city of Jerusalem and the road to it both within the battalion and in other units.

The battalion currently exists as part of the IDF Reserve Brigade.
