סמל רשות הטבע והגנים

בחפירות תל דן בשנים 1993-4 נחשפה אחת התגליות החשובות והמרעישות ביותר בארץ. החופרים מצאו כתובת ארמית על אבן בזלת שהועמדה בשעתו ככל הנראה בשער העיר דן ובה נזכר מלך ארמי, כפי הנראה חזאל, שהרג במלחמה את יהורם מלך ישראל ואחזיהו מלך "בית דוד". הכתובת מתוארכת למאה התשיעית לפנהס וזוהי הכתובת החוץ מקראית היחידה שנמצאה עד כה ובה נזכר השם בית דוד בצורה מפורשת.

"וילך (אחזיהו) את יורם בן אחאב למלחמה עם חזאל מלך ארם ברמות גלעד ויכו ארמים את יורם וישב יורם המלך הנגזר להתרפא ביזרעאל מן המכים אשר יכהו ארמים ברמה בהלחמו את חזהאל מלך ארם ואחזיהו בן יהורם מלך יהודה ירד לראות את יורם בן אחאב ביזרעאל כי חולה הוא."

הידעת?!
נחלי ישראל הגיעו בעשורים האחרונים לשפל המדרגה. מימיהם מנוצלים, בערוצים רבים זורצים קולחיו, נפתולי הנחליים יושרו, הצומח על גדותיהם נעקר ומינים פולשים רבים מצאו בהם משכן. בעשור האחרון נעשים מאמצים רבים לשנות מצב זה ולהשיב לנחלי ישראל את מקומם הראוי בנוף הטבע בישראל.
המאמצים לשיקום הנחלים מתבצעים על ידי גורמים רבים בישראל, ולרשות הטבע והגנים תפקיד חשוב במאמץ הכולל . עיקר תפקידנו הוא בשמורות הטבע ובגנים הלאומיים. כאן אנו עושים מאמצים רבים להשבת מי המקור לנחלים, להגדלת הקצאות המים להעתקת נקודות שבהם נתפסים ??? אדם לאורך הנחל.

דרבן
דרבנים רבים מוצאים את ביתם בשמורת תל דן. עקב גידור ופיקוח הפרטים בשמורה מוגנים מציד בלתי חוקי הפוגע במין זה. הדרבנים חיים בזוגיות מונוגמית לכל החיים, גרים במאורות ויוצאים לחפש מזון בדמות פקעות ובצלים כאשר הערב יורד.
קוצי הדורבן שניתן למצוא לעיתים בשבילי השמורה הם למעשה שערותיו של הדרכן שהתקשו לקוצים ארוכים וגמישים או קצרים וחדים.

סלמנדרה מצויה
הסלמנדרה הכתומה נחשבת למין בסכנת הכחדה, וכלולה בספר האדום של החולייתנים.
הריכוז הגדול ביותר בישראל של מין זה נמצא בשבילי שמורת תל דן, ומסמל את המאבק של רשות הטבע והגנים לשמר את בתי הגידול הלחים, שבלעדיהם הסלמנדרה לא תוכל להתקיים.
הסלמנדרה הינה אחת משבעת מיני הדו-חיים המצויים בישראל ביניהם- קרפדה, אילנית, צפרדע נחלים וטריטון.

לוטרה
לוטרות הן טורפות-על במארג המזון של בית הגידול הלח ונוכחותן במערכת אקולוגית מהווה סמן חשוב לבריאות המערכת והמגוון הביולוגי בה. בעבר היו הלוטרות נפוצות בכל נחלי החוף, וכן לאורך אגן הירדן, כולל אגם החולה והכנרת. בעשורים האחרונים חלה הרעה דרמטית במצבן של הלוטרות ובתפוצתן ולכן היא מוגדרת בישראל כמין בסכנת הכחדה חמורה.

Tel Dan Nature Reserve

One of the most important and sensational discoveries in the country was uncovered during the Tel Dan excavations in 1993-4. The diggers found an Aramaic inscription on a basalt stone that was probably erected at the time at the gate of the city of Dan and in which an Aramaic king, probably Hazal, is mentioned, who killed Jehoram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of the House of David during the war. The inscription dates to the ninth century BCE and is the only extra-biblical inscription found so far in which the name House of David is explicitly mentioned.

The streams of Israel have reached a low point in recent decades. Their waters are exploited, in many channels its effluents flow, the curves of the streams are straightened, the vegetation on their banks is uprooted and many invasive species have found refuge in them. In the last decade, many efforts have been made to change this situation and return to Israel’s streams their proper place in the natural landscape of Israel.
Efforts to rehabilitate the streams are carried out by many factors in Israel, and the Nature and Parks Authority plays an important role in the overall effort. Porcupine
Many Porcupines find their home in the Tel Dan Reserve. Due to the fencing and supervision of the individuals in the reserve are protected from illegal hunting that harms this species. The porcupines live in a monogamous relationship for life, live in burrows and go out in search of food in the form of tubers and onions when evening falls.
The porcupine thorns that can sometimes be found for the reserve trails are actually the hairs of the porcupine that have hardened into long, flexible or short and sharp thorns.

Near Eastern fire salamander
The orange salamander is considered an endangered species, and is included in the red book of vertebrates.
The largest concentration of this species in Israel is found on the paths of the Tel Dan Reserve, and symbolizes the struggle of the Nature and Parks Authority to preserve the moist habitats, without which the salamander would not exist.
The salamander is one of the seven amphibian species found in Israel, including the toad, Middle East tree frog, the river frog and the newt.

Otter
Otters are super-predators in the food web of the moist habitat and their presence in an ecosystem is an important marker for the health of the system and its biodiversity. In the past, otters were common in all coastal streams, as well as along the Jordan Basin, including Lake Hula and the Sea of ​​Galilee. In recent decades, there has been a dramatic deterioration in the condition of otters and their distribution, so it is defined in Israel as a critically endangered species.
