יגאל תומרקין – סמאפור Semaphore
מקור המילה semaphore בשפה הצרפתית, והיא מציינת שיטת איתות באמצעות דגלים, לסימון ולהכוונת דרכן של רכבות ואוניות.

בשנים 1992–1993 יצר יגאל תומרקין פסלי עמודים, טוטמים ואובליסקים, והציבם בגן הפסלים שלו במושב בורגתה בעמק חפר. הפסל שבחר צוות המוזיאון מזכיר את הפסל שתכנן האמן בסוף שנות השישים של המאה שעברה להציב בכניסה למוזיאון, אבל מעולם לא ביצע.

עמוד הברזל של הפסל מתנוסס מעלה לגובה של כשישה מטרים. בראשו מוצב גוף אלכסוני מופשט המכוון השמיימה כסוג של איתות. האיתות, בהקשר לשואה, קיבל משמעות של איתות זעקה לאלוה השותק.

הפסל מוצב בתוך הקיר האמנותי שתכנן יגאל תומרקין על פי בקשתו של האדריכל אריה שרון, והוא אמור להיות מעטפת לכמה פסלים. באמצעות קיר זה ופסליו של תומרקין רצה האדריכל להעניק לכניסה למחיאון הדרת כבוד.

YIGAL TOMARKIN - SEMAPHORE
The word Semaphor originates from French, meaning flag signaling method used to direct trains ships.

In 1992-1993 artist Yigal Tomarkin created a set of iron poles, totems and obelisks situated in his sculpture garden at Burgata village in the Sharon region. The sculpture selected by the museum team reminds a previous artistic creation by Tomarkin, planned for the museum in the late 1960’s, which wasn’t realized.

The chosen sculpture is a six meters high iron pole, ending with a diagonal abstract element. Placed at the museum’s entrance, the sculpture refers to a cry signed to a silent god.

The sculpture is situated on a wall designed by Tomarkin to present a variety of art works, as part of Arch.
