בבנין זה שכן ’בית הספר הישן’ של קהילת הטמפלרים שישבה במושבה הגרמנית בירושלים. הבנין נבנה בשנים 1877/78, מתוך מטרה להפוך את המתחם שבין הרחובות עמק רפאים ודרך בית לחם לקריית החינוך של המושבה, לאחר שעד למועד זה שכן בית הספר הגבוה של הקהילה ביפו.

בית הספר נפתח ב-1 בנובמבר 1878, עם 40 תלמידים, מרביתם ילדי המושבה מירושלים. מערכת החינוך בבית הספר התבססה על דגם גרמני, של מערכת חינוך בת 10 שנים, ולאחר מכן נשלחו התלמידים להשלים את לימודיהם בגרמניה, למשך שנה נוספת ואז נבחנו לקבלת תעודת בגרות.

בין שתי מלחמות העולם פעל בית הספר לסירוגין, ולאחר הגירוש הסופי של הטמפלרים מהארץ הוחרם המבנה על ידי הבריטים, ושימש כמשרד ממשלתי.

בשנת 1953 נכנס למבנה מכון הסיבים הישראלי, שהיה שייך למשרד התעשייה והמסחר. בבנין זה הותקנו מעבדות כימיות וספריה, ולאחר מכן, מאז פינוי המבנה על ידי מכון הסיבים, בשנת 1997 הוא עמד נטוש.

בתוכנית משנת 1998 של מנהל מקרקעי ישראל נקבע כי יש לשמר את המבנה ההסטורי ולהסב אותו למבנה מלונאי.

This building was once the "Old School" belonging to the Templer community In Jerusalem’s German Colony. The school was constructed in 1877-1878, with the alm of transforming the area between Emek Refalm Street and Bethlehem.Road into the Colony’s educational complex. Prevlously, the Templers’ high school had beeg in their Jaffa settlement.

The school opened on November 1, 1878 and had 40 students, mostly children from the German Colony Itself. The school’s education system was based on the German model, with 10 grades, after which the students spent a year in Germany to complete their studies before taking their final exams.

The school was only intermittently active during the interwar period. After the remaining Templers were deported from Palestine during World War II, the buildings were confiscated by the British and used as government offices.

In 1953, the Israell Fiber Institute, established a library and chemical laboratories there. The bullding was abandoned by the Fiber Institute in 1997, and has remained empty ever since.

In 1998, the Israel Land Authority determined that this historic structure would be restored and converted Into a hotel.
