בית ספר ’בארי’
בית הספר ’בארי’ הוקם בשנות ה-40 בתקופת המנדט הבריטי. עם הקמת העיר העברית בשנת 1950 הוכרז כבית ספר ממלכתי ונקרא על שם ברל כצנלסון, ממנהיגי תנועת העבודה.
בתקופות מסוימות פעל כבית ספר לבנים ובתקופות אחרות כבית ספר לכיתות ה׳-ח׳. תלמידיו הראשונים היו ילדי המעברה, בני העולים החדשים. לעיתים בימי החורף, לא הצליחו התלמידים לחזור למשפחותיהם באוהלי המעברה ובית הספר הפך לביתם השני בו שיחקו, אכלו ואף נותרו ללון בבתי המורות.
כיום מהווה המקום בית ספר לילדי כיתות א׳–ו׳ הפועל ברוח תנועות הנוער, ומשלב עקרונות מהחינוך הבלתי-פורמאלי בתכנית הלימודים בבית הספר.

’Be’eri’ School
Built in the 1940’s under the British Mandate, in 1950 the Jewish city declared it a public school, named after Labor leader Berl Katznelson.
At times it was a boys’ school; at times served 5th-8th grades. The first pupils were new immigrant, transit camps children. Sometimes in winter, if pupils were unable to return to camp, the school became their second home; eating, playing. sleeping over in teachers’ homes.
Today, it is a primary school operating in the spirit of the youth movements, integrating informal educational principles in the curriculum.

According to the school’s security guard, this is the school where Ilan Ramon (the first Israeli space pilot who died in the space shuttle Columbia disaster) attended as a child.
