מבנה זה היה ארמון הממשל התורכי ושימש מפקדה לפורעים הערבים, כמו גם המטה הראשי של יחידות צבא המשלוח העיראקי שפלש לארץ ישראל לאחר החלטת האו"ם בדבר חלוקת ארץ ישראל.
ביום 4.1.1948 (כ"ב טבת תש"ח), פוצץ הבניין על יושביו בידי שני "מסתערבים", לוחמי לח"י:
אלישע איבזוב (שמואל),
ורחמים חכמוב (ריגולטו).
השניים הציבו משאית ממולכדת עמוסה בארגזי תפוזים שמתחת להם החביאו חומר נפץ.

Formerly the Ottoman government house, the building was used as a command post by local Arab rioters and the Iraqi expeditionary force that invaded the country following the UN decision to partition Palestine.
It was blown up on January 4, 1948 by two Lehi fighters,
Elisha Ivazov and
Rahamim Hachamov,
who parked a truck nearby that was carrying explosives hidden under orange crates.
