The sign is in the house where Avraham Sutzkever lived - a poet, born in Smorgon, Belarus (1913-2010), immigrated to Israel in 1947.
One of the most important Yiddish poets of the twentieth century. During World War II, he was exiled to the Vilnius ghetto, where he wrote the song that became the ghetto anthem. He later fled the ghetto and joined the partisan forces. Even when he arrived in Israel, he continued to be honored in the Yiddish language.
Won the Israel Prize for Yiddish Literature (1985) and the Itzik Manger Prize for Literary Work in Yiddish.
The sign above his house in Tel Aviv was placed in 2013
