Comments:
The Fontaine des Mers in the Place de la Concorde symbolizes the sea. The figures carrying the base of the fountain symbolize the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean while they are seated in a boat, which is the symbol of the city of Paris.

The figures around the base of the fountain are Nereids - a Nereid is a sea nymph. They hold a fish from which water comes out.

The fountain was designed by architect Jacques Hittorff and its construction was completed in 1840
