At the end of one the bloody battles fought at Latrun, Reuven Huber, a soldier in the Givati Brigade, carried an injured Machal fighter on his back from the battlefield.
At dawn, when they reached Hulda, Reuven discovered that the injured soldier had died.
The identity of that Machal soldier remains unknown.
This sculpture is dedicated to them both.

פסל זה מוקדש לכבודם של מתנדבי חוץ-לארץ (מח"ל) שלחמו במלחמת העצמאות.
עם פרוץ מלחמת העצמאות הגיעו ארצה כ-3,500 מתנדבים, גברים ונשים יהודים ולא יהודים, מ-43 מדינות.
רוב המתנדבים שירתו בצבאות מדינות הברית במלחמת העולם השניה והביאו עימם מומחיות ונסיון לצה"ל. הם שיחקו תפקיד מכריע בחיל האוויר, חיל השריון, חיל רגלים, הפלמ"ח, חיל הים, חיל רפואה חיל הנדסה ועוד. הם תרמו תרומה משמעותית למאמץ המלחמתי ולנצחון.

Your Fellow Man

In honour of the overseas volunteer soldiers - Machal - who came to fight for the State of Israel in its War of Independence.
During Israel’s Struggle for survival and Independence, approximately 3,500 volunteers (Machalniks), men and women, Jews as well as non-Jews, from 43 countries, rallied to its defence.
Most of the volunteers had served in the Allied forces in World War II, and brought their expertise and experience to the fledgling I.D.F. They played a crucial role in the Air Force, Armoured Corps, Infantry, Palmach, Navy, Engineering Corps, Medical Corps and other units, and made an outstanding contribution to the war effort and its victorious conclusion.

119 Machalniks lost their lives in the War of Independence.

The sculpture was made by Ardyn Halter and is located at the Yad LaShirion site in Latrun (on the base of the monument is a small sign with the text "Man for Man" in Hebrew and English and probably the name of the sculptor.
