This APC (armored personnel carrier) was developed and produced by the Ministry of Defense’s Merkava Tank Directorate, following the 2006 Second Lebanon War. The Namer was designed to enable highly protected mobility for the infantry. This APC is based on the Merkava hull and is equipped with a remotely controlled heavy machine gun, loaded from within the vehicle. The Namer entered service in 2008, in the infantry brigades, and participated in Operation Protective Edge. A Trophy active protection system was installed in these vehicles as protection from anti tank threats.
