A sign in the series of signs in Madrid, made of clay and depicting in an illustration one of the elements of the street
The streets name derives from the Moriscos watchtowers that were on the city wall during the Morisco period (Muslims who converted to Christianity), which were called specula in Latin. The name was later corrupted to speculum, which means mirror (Espejo in Spanish), hence the name expressed in the drawing that appears on the sign.
The sign was painted by Alfredo Ruiz de Luna Gonzalez
