A sign in the series of signs in Madrid, made of clay and depicting in an illustration one of the elements of the street
The name of the street comes from the first hat shop in Madrid that was located on this street. Another version speaks of a cleric who lived on the street who was a companion of Prince Carlos, son of King Felipe II. After he was forbidden to meet with the prince, he continued to visit him, contrary to the cardinals instructions. In response, a fictitious funeral was staged for him. And when he arrived at his house, he saw the door locked and a red hat on top of it placed on the roof. He was sent to prison for 4 years, and during that entire period the hat was placed on the roof of the house (which may be the hat that appears in the picture on the sign).
The sign was painted by Alfredo Ruiz de Luna Gonzalez
