A series of signs placed in 2025 on one of the banks of the Yarkon River, featuring cultural figures, some of whom are still alive, dressed in the uniforms of the football teams they supported. The project was created by Tal Shetach, an illustrator who was himself a football player
Click for sign's details The current sign shows Yuval Banai in the uniform of the Maccabi Tel Aviv team, at a time when the sponsor was Visa.
Translation of the text on the sign:
Yuval Banai (b. 1962)
Maccabi Tel Aviv, 1993/94
Born in Tel Aviv. Member of the famous Banai family. In 1983, shortly after his military service in the First Lebanon War, he founded the band "Mashina" with Shlomi Bracha, his friend from the service.
"Farewell Youth, Peace, Love" is the seventh studio album by "Mashina", released in 1995, before its disbandment, and is considered by many to be its finest. The albums theme song opens with the words: "It was a rainy day and the team lost." Banai, who comes from a red family, directs the lyrics to that legendary game in Kiryat Eliezer (1993/94 season) between the two leaders of the table - Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Tel Aviv, in which the Tel Aviv team won a resounding 5-0 against a spectacular Haifa football display.
Banai, who saw his team humiliated up close, opens the second verse with the words: "We returned from Haifa with our faces in our hands." The impact of the painful result, which is burned into every fan, finds poetic expression in a work of art that is no less than an iron sheeps asset in our music.
