At this place, which was known as the Freemasons’ Tavern, the sportsman Ebenezer Cobb Morley (1831-1924), considered one of the fathers of modern football, founded the English Football Association. At this first meeting, the laws of modern football were established, including the rules against touching the ball with the hands, the duration of the game, and more.
