דרבצן היא העיר השנייה בגודלה בהונגריה, אחרי בודפשט. היא משמשת מרכז אזורי של אזור המישור הצפוני הגדול ובירת מחוז היידו-ביהר.

בשנת 1840 אושר ליהודים רשמית להתיישב בדרבצן. ב- 1940 היו בדרבצן כ- 12,000 יהודים בעיר. גירוש היהודים החל ביוני 1944.
כ- 4,000 מיהודי דרבצן שרדו את המלחמה.

DEBRECEN, Hungary
Debrecen is the second largest city in Hungary after Budapest. lt is the regional center of the Northern Great Plain region and the capital of Hajdú-Bihar County.
Before Hungarians occupied present-day Hungary, a number of different tribes lived In the area. The town came into existence by the merging of the small villages of the area. In 1849 Debrecen was the capital of Hungary for a short time.
During World War ll, Debrecen was almost completely destroyed, 70% of the buildings suffered damage, 50% of them were completely destroyed. A major battle, the Battle of Debrecen occurred near the city in October 1944.
After 1944 the reconstruction began and Debrecen became the capital of Hungary for a short time once again.
Debrecen is a home to large Universities, whose main buildings are widely recognized work of architecture, a city of old tradition with impressive Institutions of education and culture. The city full with enterprising districts and industrial parks, is attractive to investors.
Jews, we officially permitted to settle in the town in 1840. In 1940, there were, 12.000 Jews in the city. Deportations of Jews began in June 1944. About 4.000 Jews from Debrecen survived the war.
