The sign commemorates the fallen from the 13th Marine Commando Squadron in Operation "Peep Song" on September 5, 1997. In the operation known as the "Shayetet Disaster," 11 Marines and a doctor from the rescue force were killed after encountering an ambush (which may have been planned).
The monument located on the promenade and commemorating the fallen was inaugurated in 2008 and was photographed on the same day by the same photographer
