מתקנים חקלאיים מחיי היומיום בארץ ישראל בעת העתיקה
"כמה יגע אדם הראשון עד שחרש וזרע וקצר ועימר ודש וזרה ובירר וטחן והרקיד ולש ואחר כך אכל" (ברכות נ"ח, ע"א)

דגן, גפן וזית הם מן הגידולים העיקריים בחקלאות הבעל הים תיכונית בימי קדם עסקו רוב בני האדם בחקלאות, וחלק ניכר מזמנם ומרצם הוקדשו לגידול מוצריהם ולעיבודם. התצוגה הארכיאולוגית בקריה החקלאית מציגה מבט לחיי היומיום בארץ ישראל בעת העתיקה באמצעות מתקנים חקלאיים וטכנולוגיות ששימשו בהכנת מוצרי מזון - שמן זית וקמח; ובהשגת מים, בהובלתם ובאגירתם.

המוצגים היו חלק מתצוגה שהוקמה על ידי משרד החקלאות, בחצר בניין סרגיי שבמגרש הרוסים בירושלים, מקום בו שכן המשרד בעת ההיא. התצוגה נחנכה במעמד חגיגי של שר החקלאות דאז, משה דיין, ראש העיר ירושלים, ואישים נוספים מהנהלת משרד החקלאות, אגף העתיקות והאוניברסיטה העברית. לאחרונה, שוב ביזמת הנהלת משרד החקלאות ורשות העתיקות, הוחלט על העתקתה ועל הקמת תצוגה חדשה בקריה החקלאית שבראשון לציון, מקום משכנו החדש של המשרד.

Agricultural Installations from Daily Life in Eretz Israel in Ancient Times

"How many labors did Adam have to work at until he found bread to eat? lle plowed, sowed, harvested, and stacked the sheaves. He threshed, winnowed, sorted, ground and sifted, kneaded, baked, and after all this he ate" (Berakoth 58:71)

The main Mediterranean dryland farming crops consist of cereals, vines, and olives. In ancient times, since most people were farmers, the greater part of their time and energy went into growing and processing these crops. The archaeological exhibit provides an insight into daily life in ancient Eretz Israel through the agricultural installations and technologies used to manufacture food - olive oil and flour and to obtain, transport and store water.

The exhibits come from a display first mounted by the Ministry of Agriculture in 1961, which was housed at the time in the Russian Compound’s Sergei Courtyard in Jerusalem. The exhibition was inaugurated at a ceremony attended by Moshe Dayan, then Minister of Agriculture, together with Jerusalem’s Mayor and representatives of the Agricultural Ministry, the Department of Antiquities, and the Hebrew University. A recent initiative by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Israel Antiquities Authority led to its relocation and renewed display in the ministry’s new premises at the Agricultural Center Rishon-Lezion.

Site note: As can be seen on the Ministry of Agriculture building, its name at the time of the photo being taken was "Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security", while on the sign it appears as "Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development" - the name of the ministry has changed so many times that it is difficult to keep track... The name was changed mainly for political reasons by the minister heading the ministry, who in this case, apparently wanted to add some "security" to the name of the ministry...
