The Roman period (first century BСЕ-third century CE)
Following the Roman conquest in 63 BCE, Dor was incorporated into the province of Syria and became a thriving independent city, often mentioned by Josephus Flavius. An aqueduct channeled water to the city and some of its residences were decorated with frescoes and mosaics. A theater, like the one in Caesarea, was built in the northern part of the city, and a large bathhouse and huge temple complex were built on the beach overlooking the sea. Following the establishment of Caesarea and its harbor in the early first century CE, Dor lost its status and ceased to exist as a city in the third century CE.
