The plaque is located on the wall of a school in the Jewish Ghetto of Venice, probably a school connected to Adolfo Ottolenghi.
Adolfo Ottolenghi (1885–1944) was the Chief Rabbi of Venice between 1919 and 1944.
After the Jews of Venice were expelled from the city during World War II, Jews over the age of 70, including the Rabbi, were allowed to return. In August 1944, the Rabbi was arrested and deported to the Auschwitz extermination camp, where he perished.
The place where the plaque is displayed was photographed on the same day by the same photographer

Adolfo Ottolenghi
Teacher and Martyr in Israel
From the darkness of blindness he radiated the light of his faith – comfort to the humble, strength to the wavering in the hour of inhuman hatred.
In this school that was dear to him, in this community that he deeply loved – may he be remembered in blessing.
Livorno, July 30, 1885
Rabbi of Venice from 1919 to 1944
