Yitzhak Nesher
1903–1996

Yitzhak Nesher was born in Ukraine, joined the Zionist underground, and immigrated to the Land of Israel in 1925. Yitzhak Nesher worked as a physical education teacher between the years 1935-1963.

With humor and charm, through his deep love of people, his understanding of the human spirit, and his great joy in life, he educated hundreds of students to play, to rejoice, and to respect others. Yitzhak Nesher developed a special method of physical education based on cooperation, performance according to ability, and enjoyment.

His friends said of him: He did not teach games – he taught how to play.
In his role as a physical education teacher, he organized the school’s performances and parades, and invented special apparatus designed with the children’s enjoyment in mind, while at the same time improving their physical fitness and social skills.

These apparatus were distributed in playgrounds throughout the country. He was an athlete in his own right, and also taught in seminaries and in the IDF. He devoted his time to educating youth in development towns, and volunteered to guide groups of blind people in dance, games, swimming, and hikes.
