ל.פ - פ.צ.ל).

Caper (tzalaf)
The caper is a thick thorny bush with a pair of hooked thorns at the base of each leaf. In winter the branches dry and the leaves fall off. In spring the caper grows fleshy-round leaves, followed by large white impressive flowers that bloom every day at twilight throughout summer, forming new fruit for some eight months of the year.
The caper is mentioned in Jewish scriptures and because of its ability to survive in the harshest conditions, it is considered "the persevering among trees...as Israel is the persevering among nations" (Beitza 25b).
The caper was chosen as the symbol of Neot Kedumim because it represents perseverance in difficult conditions and because of its ability to produce new fruit every day. The Hebrew name for caper, tzalaf, comes from inverting the letters in the Hebrew word describing the way the caper fruit splits open, mitpatzel, exposing its seeds.
