Here was the Dar al-Yahud, the "Courtyard of the Jews."
It was purchased in 1825 by Yeshayahu Adjiman, a philanthropist from Istanbul who had vowed to to make a donation for Eretz Israel.
He built in the courtyard a synagogue, rooms for Torah study, and overnight accommodations for Jewish immigrants to Eretz Israel and those coming to bathe on the shores of Jaffa. In 1929, the site ceased to operate in the aftermath of the year’s violent events.
