1908-1911

The sign is located on the banks of the Seine, where the tunnel used by Metro Line 8 under the Seine River was completed. This tunnel under the Seine was one of the most impressive engineering works of the early 20th century. The work lasted from 1908 to 1911. The great flood of Paris in 1910, when the Seine overflowed its banks, caused a significant delay in this project.
The sign is located at the Port des Invalides at the approximate point where the tunnel passes under the river.
