The sign is on the wall of the house where the famous writer Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) lived from 1884 until his imprisonment in 1895 (due to homosexuality). In this house his famous works "The Picture of Dorian Gray" and "The Importance of Being Earnest" were written.

The sign was placed in 1954.
