On the sign:
LONDON COUNTY COUNCIL
OSCAR WILDE 1854-1900 wit and dramatist lived here
The sign is on the wall of the house where the famous writer Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) lived from 1884 until his imprisonment in 1895 (due to homosexuality). In this house his famous works "The Picture of Dorian Gray" and "The Importance of Being Earnest" were written.
The sign was placed in 1954.
The house was photographed on the same day (in the photo you can see two "blue" signs, the current sign is the farther one, and the closer sign commemorates the physician Leslie Haden-Guest Click for sign's details) Click for a larger image
