On the sign:
O LORD YOU KNOW HOW OCCUPIED I SHALL BE THIS DAY. IF I FORGET THEE DO NOT FORGET ME
The statue was commissioned by the Royal Hospital Chelsea from Philip Jackson to mark the end of the millennium and was unveiled in May 2000.
The phrase on the base of the statue is a prayer recited before battle.
There is another plaque that provides additional details about the statue, but since the entrance gate to the site was closed, the statue was photographed from a distance.
