The Great Synagogue

This is the first building to be a synagogue in the colony. Until its construction, the public would gather at various places in the community. In the 1920s, the founders would gather in Petrozansky’s hut (the first house on the east side of Ahuza Street). Then they had a room in the People’s house, and on holidays they congregated in his hall. In 1939 the synagogue building was inaugurated and is used by the community to this day. In the 1970s, a number of changes were made to the structure and its facade was covered with marble.
