Signs series: Boarding Gates

About the series

Background

In the early days of aviation, takeoffs and landings were made from grass fields. The first airport was built by the Wright brothers in 1909 in Maryland. A year later an airport was opened in Beijing, China.

Today airports are scattered all over the world, and because of the complexity of the stage of preparing passengers for flight (security checks, ticketing, baggage handling, border control and more) relative to stations of other means of transport is where passengers spend the most time.

Arrival and departure from the airport is done through the boarding gates, of which there are dozens and even hundreds of large airports.

In addition to the gate number , additional details appear on the gate (flight number, destination and more)

About the signs

The signs are many and varied. They all have the gate number, but as mentioned above their shape, the materials from which they are made and their location can vary from airport to airport.
With the development of technology, many signs are accompanied by computer signage, which actually consists of a computer screen . Much thought is usually invested in the planning and design of the signs, notably Doha Airport, where it is difficult to ignore the presence of the boarding gate
