פיזיקאי אמריקאי ממוצא יהודי, הידוע בתרומתו לאסטרופיזיקה ולחקר הכבידה. וייס הוא פרופסור באוניברסיטת MIT, אחת מתרומותיו הגדולות היא המצאת טכניקת הלייזר האינטרפומטרי (צריך להיות האינטרפרומטרי) אשר היוותה חלק מכריע בניסוי LIGO, בשנות ה-80 של המאה ה-20, הוא היה יו"ר הצוות של מיזם הלויין COBE.

RAINER WEISS
AN AMERICAN PHYSICIST OF JEWISH DESCENT, KNOWN FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO ASTROPHYSICS AND THE STUDY OF GRAVITY. WEISS IS A PROFESSOR AT MIT. ONE OF HIS GREAT CONTRIBUTIONS IS THE INVENTION OF THE INTERFEROMETRIC LASER TECHNIQUE WHICH WAS A CRUCIAL PART OF THE LIGO EXPERIMENT. IN THE 1980S HE WAS THE CHAIRMAN OF THE TEAM OF THE COBE SATELLITE VENTURE.
