Comments:
The sign is located at the site of the home of the postman and stable keeper Thomas Hobson who is known mainly for the phrase "Hobson’s choice", a situation in which a free choice is apparently given between several options, but in fact only one option is offered. It is said about Hobson that to the people who came to the stable to take horses, he would say "You can take the horse closest to the door, or you won’t take any horses."
