Comments:
The sign is on the wall of the house where the civil engineer Sir Joseph William Bazalgette lived. who is best known for the construction of the sewer system of central London. The system was established following the "Big Stink" event, in which in 1858 most of the residents of central London were forced to leave their homes because of the stench that rose from the Thames River, a stench caused by sewage that was poured into the river.
The sign was placed in 1974
