Comments:
The plaque is on the house where Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, 1st Marquis of Pombal, the Portuguese ambassador to Britain, who later became Portugal’s foreign minister and the man who rebuilt it after the 1755 earthquake, lived.
These houses also housed the Portuguese embassy at the time.

The sign was placed in 1980.

The houses were photographed on the same day by the same photographer Click for a larger image
