The sign is one of the signs indicating famous people who have stayed at the Chelsea Hotel.

The current plaque features the renowned Welsh poet Dylan Thomas who is considered one of the greatest poets of the twentieth century. The poet died at the Chelsea Hotel, where he had arrived on a promotional tour
