Monument to Ujō Noguchi

「七つの子」「赤い靴」「雨降りお月さん」などの童謡で名高い詩 人野口雨情は、一九二四年から約二十年間、井の頭恩賜公園に近い 武蔵野村吉祥寺に居を構えて創作活動を行いました。 この碑は一九五二年に東京両情会が建立したもので、両情歌詞の 「井の頭音頭」の一節が紹介されています。

The poet Ujō Noguchi.famous as the lyricist of well-known children’s songs, lived and worked for about 20 years in a house he built in 1924 near Inokashira Park in Kichijoji, which was then part of the village of Musashino. This monument was erected in 1952 by the Tokyo Ujó Soceity. It is engraved with a verse from his folk song entitled "Inokashira Ondo":

Naite sawaide hinokure-goro wa ashi ni gyögyöshi wa narya senu

Toward sunset the warblers settle on the reeds singing noisily

の暮れごろは
茸に
竹々子
はなりやせぬ
