The house where he lived and was also the laboratory of the German-born chemist Ambrose Godfrey (Ambrose Godfrey-Hanckwitz), one of the producers of phosphorus at that time who was also a pharmacist. Godfrey is also known as the inventor of the fire extinguisher.
