One of the series of signs describing historical places in Paris. The signs were placed starting in 1992 and are also called sucettes Starck (Starck’s Lollipops) after Philippe Starck who designed them.
The plaque describes the house where the d’Estrées family lived, and in particular Gabrielle d’Estrées who was the mistress and advisor of Henri IV, King of France.

History of Paris
The grand house of Estrées At No. 70 of this medieval street is already the “small house” of Estrées; around 1550, the grand master of artillery, Jean d’Estrées, had a new residence built here. His son Antoine married Françoise Babou de la Bourdaisière, with whom he had two boys and six girls. Born in 1571, Gabrielle was presented in 1590 to Henri IV by her cousin Claude de Beauvilliers, abbess of Montmartre and reigning mistress of Béarnais. She succeeded him in 1591 and gave birth to three children, all legitimized; pregnant again in 1599, she died of an attack of eclampsia followed by a hemorrhage on the eve of Easter, when the king had just announced their upcoming marriage. The entire court went into mourning after the funeral, celebrated in Saint - Germain l’Auxerrois.
