המושבה האמריקאית
המושבה של הקומונה אמריקאית פעלה בעיר העתיקה בהנהגת אנה והוריישו ספאפורד החל משנת 1881. בשנת 1896 עברו לשכון במקום הזה. חברי הקהילה התפרנסו מתעשייה קלה. חקלאים שוודים שהצטרפו תרמו להתפתחות המקום. התצלומים שלהם המוצגים במלון מתעדים את ירושלים בתחילת המאה ה-20. סלמה לגרלף, לימים כלת פרס נובל לספרות, התגוררה כאן וספרה "ירושלים" מתאר את חיי המושבה באותם הימים. בשנות החמישים של המאה העשרים הפך המקום למלון המצוי בידי צאצאי המשפחה המייסדת, ומנוהל בידי חברת מלונות שוויצרית.

قام بتأسيس المستعمرة الأمريكية عام ۱۸۸۱ في البلدة القديمة فرقة من الأمريكانيين برئاسة أنا وهراشيو سبافورد. وفي وقت لاحق انضمت مجموعة من المزارعين السويديون لمشاركة النشاط الخيري في ١٨٨٦ اشتروا هذه العمارة من باشا مسلم ونزل فيها عدد من الضيوف، منهم الكاتبة السويدية سيلما لاغير ليف الفائزة بجائزة نوبل للأدب. في أواخر الخمسينيات من القرن العشرين تحول إلى الفندق الذي لا يزال مملوكا لأحفاد العائلة وإن تحولت الإدارة إلى شركة سويسرية للفنادق.

THE AMERICAN COLONY
Established in 1881 by an American group led by Anna and Horatio Spaford Joined In 1894 by Swedish farmers. To accommodate the larger community, they bought the home north of the old city, Initially built as a private palace. In the early 1900s the place hosted visitors who sought a high-level Inn, Including the Swedish Nobel Prize laureate Selma Lagerlöf, who described the community way of life in her novel Jerusalem. Early in the 1950s It became a high-grading hotel, which is still owned by the Spafford off-springs, though run by the Swiss Gauer Hotels.
