הוקם בשנת 1926 על ידי עולים מליטא, רומניה, פולין וצ’כיה ומשתייך לקיבוץ הארצי.
נקרא על שם העיר המקראית "שריד" המוזכרת כגבולו של שבט זבולון "ויעל הגורל השלישי לבני זבולון למשפחתם ויהי גבול נחלתם עד שריד" (יהושע יט, י), אשר זוהתה יותר מאוחר בתל שדוד הסמוך.

Established in 1926 by immigrants from Lithuania, Romania, Poland and the Czech Republic and belongs to the national kibbutz.
Named after the biblical city of "Sarid" which is mentioned as the border of the tribe of Zebulun "And the third lot came up for the children of Zebulun according to their families; and the border of their inheritance was unto Sarid" (Joshua 19:10), which was later identified as the nearby Tel Shddud.
