The statue commemorating the famous Spanish painter Diego Velázquez (1599-1660), who is considered one of the greatest Spanish painters, mainly thanks to his portraits of the Spanish royal court, was made by Aniceto Marinas and inaugurated in 1899 as part of the celebrations of the 300th anniversary of the painter’s birth. The statue is placed in front of the Prado Museum

The statue in which the painter is shown, seated and holding a palette and brush, was photographed on the same day by the same photographer Click for a larger image Click for a larger image
