Born in Marseille, France (1757-1840)
A French sculptor known for his distinctly neoclassical style - strict adherence to clean lines, figures that resemble ancient Roman statues, classical toga attire, etc.
During the French Revolution he became a passionate and very radical republican. He served as one of the presidents of the "Republican Society of Arts", but despite this during the Consulate and First Empire of Napoleon he received a long series of official commissions from the state.
