Born in Colmar, France (1834-1904)
Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, a French sculptor best known for the "Statue of Liberty" , which stands at the entrance to New York Harbor.

He designed several other well-known sculptures, including the Lion of Belfort (Le Lion de Belfort) in France and a statue of the Marquis de Lafayette, which was also presented as a gift to the City of New York .
