בניין זה שימש בתרצ"ו-תש"ח (1936-1948) מרכז פעילות של ההגנה - צבא המדינה שבדרך - במסווה של מועצת הספורט של "הפועל".
בשנים תש"ז-תש"ח שימש גם את
המחלקה המגויסת
של חי"ש (חיל השדה).
המחלקה ביצעה בעיקר פעולות תגמול נגד פורעים ערבים בתל-אביב והסביבה.

It was also used by
the Mobilized Department of the Field Corps (1947-1948), which primarily carried out reprisal attacks against Arab rioters in Tel Aviv and the vicinity
