FICUS MICROCARPA

שם: פיקוס השדרות (פיקוס נוצץ)

מוצא: אסיה הטרופית

תכונות: עץ נוי ירוק עד, מתנשא לגובה 10 מ’. בעל נוף רחב וצפוף ומפתח שורשי סעד (שורשי אוויר). פרי העץ הוא פגה המאוכלסת בצרעות הגורמות להבשלתו. משמש כעץ לנטיעה לאורך רחובות ושדרות.

סיפור: חלק מעצי פיקוס השדרות ניטעו על ידי תלמידי בית הספר "חביב" במסגרת תהליך הפיכת פרדס המושבה לגן ציבורי (שנות הארבעים של המאה ה-20).

Name: Ficus Microcarpa

Origin: Tropical Asia

Traits: Ornamental evergreen growing to 10 meters with a broad crown spread. It develops auxiliary air roots. The fruit is a fig populated by wasps which cause it to ripen. It is commonly planted along streets and boulevards.

The story: Some of the boulevard’s ficus trees were planted by students of the "Haviv" school, as part of activities to turn the town’s orchard into a public garden in the 1940s.
