העיר רחובות נוסדה בשנת תר"ן (1890) נבנתה על אדמות חירבת דוראן, אתר מהתקופה הרומית הביזנטית והערבית הקדומה המזוהה עם "דורון" ישוב יהודי מתקופת המשנה והתלמוד.
הוכרזה כעיר בשנת 1950.
השם רחובות הוצע ע"י ישראל בלקינד, מהפסוק "כי עתה הרחיב ה’ לנו ופרינו בארץ (בראשית כ"ו כ"ב).
מיקום גאוגרפי - מישור החוף הדרומי.
שטח שיפוט - 22,500 דונם.

ב-ז’ באדר תר"ן נחתם חוזה מכירת הקרקע ובפורים תר"ן, נערך ליד הבאר העתיקה טקס חנוכת המושבה.

בשנת 1904 - ניטע בה הפרדס הראשון.
בשנת 1920 - הוקמה תחנת הרכבת.
בשנת 1932 - הוקמה התחנה לחקר החקלאות.
בשנת 1934 - נבנה בעיר מכון זיו.
בשנת 1942 - הוקמה הפקולטה לחקלאות.
בשנת 1949 - נוסד מכון וייצמן למדע.
בשנת 1963 - הוקם המרכז לחקר ההתיישבות, המכון להדברה ביולוגית.
בשנת 1970 - הוקם ביה"ס למדעי התזונה.
בשנת 1963 - הוקמו המרכז לחקר והמכון להדברה.

1. בית משפט השלום הוקם ברחובות בשנת 1939 ושכן בבית שטרנברג, רח’ הרצל 177 (פינת גאולה) ב- 1963 עבר למשכנו הנוכחי ברח’ רוז’נסקי.
2. משטרת רחובות גם היא קיימת מתקופת המנדט 1938 כנראה.
3. בי"ח קפלן נחנך ב- 1945.

City of Rehovot
The city of Rehovot was founded in 1890 and was built on the lands of Khirbet Duran, a site from the Byzantine Roman and Early Arab period associated with "Doron", a Jewish settlement from the Mishnah and Talmudic period.
Declared a city in 1950.
The name Rehovot was suggested by Israel Belkind, from the verse "For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land" (Genesis 26:22).
Geographical location - the southern coastal plain.
Jurisdiction - 22,500 dunams.

On the 7th of Adar 1890, a contract for the sale of the land was signed, and on Purim 1890, the inauguration ceremony of the colony was held near the Old Well.

In 1904 - the first orchard was planted there.
In 1920 - the railway station was established.
In 1932 - the station for the study of agriculture was established.
In 1934 - the Ziv Institute was built in the city.
In 1942 - the Faculty of Agriculture was established.
In 1949 - The Weizmann Institute of Science was founded.
In 1963 - the Center for Settlement Research, the Institute for Biological Pesticides, was established.
In 1970 - the School of Nutrition Sciences was established.
In 1963 - the Center for Research and the Institute of Pest Control were established.

The Magistrate’s Court was established in Rehovot in 1939 and was located in the Sternberg House, 177 Herzl St. (corner of Geula). In 1963, it moved to its current location on Rozensky Street.
2. Rehovot Police also exists from the Mandate period, 1938 probably.
3. Kaplan Hospital was inaugurated in 1945.
