The train conductor’s main function is to be in charge of the trip. In a passenger train, the Conductor is also responsible for checking passengers’ tickets and ensuring the well-being of the passengers. The conductor also signals to the locomotive driver when to leave the station. In the past this was done by raising a flag; now it is done by pressing a button in each car.
