The structure next to you was built during the British Mandate as permanent living quarters for train workers. The water tank on top of the building, which can still be scen today, provided the workers with water. It sometimes even provided the villagers with hot water.

"As far back as I can remember, there has been a train in the background... he worked on the train for 50 years. For him this was the ’conquest of Work,’ because few Jews worked on the railroad. Dad agreed to do the hardest work although the pay was low... He simply got bitten by the train bug and stayed on..."
Shlomo Cohen, second generation of train workers, about his father, who worked for the railway from
1918.
