אריאל שרון והפארק

בשנת 2005 החליטה ממשלת ישראל - בראשותו אריאל שרון ז"ל ובמעורבות השרה להגנת הסביבה דאז פרופ’ יהודית נאות ז"ל - להועיד לטובת הציבור את אחד השטחים הפתוחים האחרונים שנותרו במרכז הארץ ולהופכו לפארק. בעקבות ההחלטה הוקמה חברה ממשלתית שמטרתה לתכנן ולפתח את הפארק ולהעניק בכך לתושבי המדינה ריאה ירוקה שתשתלב במרקם חייהם.
לאות הוקרה על תמיכתו הבלתי מסויגת של ראש הממשלה לשעבר אריאל שרון בהקמת הפארק ובמטרותיו, הוחלט בשנת 2007 לקרוא לפארק על שמו - פארק אריאל שרון.

הידעתם?
החלטת הממשלה להקמת הפארק ולשמירה על השטחים הפתוחים, התקבלה לאחר מאבק ציבורי של ארגונים סביבתיים ושל תושבי השכונות הסמוכות לפארק אשר התנגדו לתכניות הבינוי שהוצעו במקום.

In 2005, with the support of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and the Minister of Environmental Protection Professor Yehudit Naot, the Israeli government decided to transform one of the last open areas in the center of the country into parkland for the benefit of the general public. A government association was founded to plan and develop the park, to provide country’s residents with a green lung as an integral part of their urban surroundings.
In 2007, as a sign of gratitude for Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s boundless support for the establishment of the park and goals, it was decided to dedicate the park in his name; the park is now called the "Ariel Sharon Park."

Did you know that...?
The government’s decision to preserve the develop the park was in response to public protests led by environmental organizations and local residents who opposed proposed plans for urban construction.
