בבניין זה התגורר בין השנים 1939-1937 קפטן אורד צ’רלס וינגייט, שנשלח לארץ ישראל כקצין מודיעין בריטי.
אורד צ’רלס וינגייט יזם, ארגן ואימן יחידה מעורבת של חיילים בריטים ונוטרים יהודיים - "פלגות הלילה המיוחדות" ((S.N.S - למלחמה בכנופיות הערביות שפעלו בארץ בשנים 1939-1936. במרץ 1944 נהרג וינגייט בתאונת מטוס בגבול בורמה/הודו.
על זיקתו העזה לציונות זכה לכינוי "הידיד".

During the years 1937-1939, Captain Orde Charles Wingate lived in this building. Captain Wingate had been sent here as a British intelligence officer.
Orde Wingate initiated, organized and trained a mixed unit of British soldiers and Jewish policemen - the "Special Night Squads" (SNS) to combat the Arab insurgents during the Arab Revolt of 1936-1939. For his affiliation with Zionism, he was known by the nickname "The Friend".
Wingate was killed in a plane crash in Burma/India border in March, 1944.

The sign shape is rectangular but its head is designed according to the silhouette of the old building of the Gymnasia Herzliya, which serves as a logo of the Council for the Preservation of Heritage Sites in Israel
