מעלות עולי הגרדום
רחוב מדרגות שנבנה על-ידי הבריטים בסוף מאורעות 1936-9 כחיץ בין הרובע היהודי ובין הרובע הערבי. נשלט על-ידי עמדות ירי בריטיות שהוקמו בבנין הדואר המנדטורי ברחוב ירושלים (כיום משרד הפנים). פרוז’קטור שהאיר בלילות את הרחוב קבוע עד היום על גג המבנה. בתש"ח (1948) נחשב רחוב המדרגות לקו ההגנה המסוכן ביותר ברובע ולכן כונה "קו סטלינגרד".
שם הרחוב מנציח את שבעת לוחמי האצ"ל, שהועלו לגרדום על-ידי הבריטים בעכו (1947) והובאו לקבורה בצפת.

"Ma’alot Oley HaGardom"
A long, straight stairway constructed by the British towards the end of the 1936-1939 riots as a buffer between the Jewish and Arab quarters. It was controlled by a British gun emplacement above the post office on Jerusalem Street. The large searchlight that lit the stairs at night is still fixed to the roof of the building. In 1948 the stairs were considered the most dangerous defense line of the Jewish Quarter, earning them the nickname"Stalingrad Line".
The street is named after seven "Etzel" fighters who were executed by the British in Acre (Akko) prison (1947) and buried in Safed.
