"המקלט הגדול"
בנייתו של המקלט החלה בראשית המערכה במלחמת העצמאות. בקרבות אפריל 1948, נגד הצבא הירדני, בנייתו עדיין לא הושלמה.
בעת קרבות הבלימה נגד הצבא העיראקי הפולש והמצור הממושך, היה זה מרכז החיים של גשר הלוחמת; כאן היו המטבח ומחסן המזון, המרפאה, חדר הנשק ומקום מנוחתם של הלוחמים שבאו מהעמדות לנוח לפי תור.

"THE LARGE SHELTER"
Construction of the shelter began at the outbreak of the War of Independence. It had yet to be completed during the battles of April 1948 against the Jordanian Army. During combat against the invading Iraqi army and the continued siege, the shelter was the center of Gesher’s activity; the kitchen and food storage were in the shelter, as well as the clinic, the weapons room, and a place to rest for the soldiers who would step down from their fighting positions.

The sign shape is rectangular but its head is designed according to the silhouette of the old building of the Gymnasia Herzliya, which serves as a logo of the Council for the Preservation of Heritage Sites in Israel
